DOI: 10.1177/08943189922106440 © 1999 SAGE Publications Newmans Theory of Health Applied in Family Caregiving in CanadaSaitama College of Health Sciences, Saitama-Ken, Japan This study was conducted using an innovative mode of heuristic inquiry within the context of Newmans theory of health as expanding consciousness. Twelve caregiving families of persons who were diagnosed with schizophrenia participated in the study. In accordance with Newmans theory of health as praxis, the majority of the participants in the study recognized their patterns of the whole. As a result, they reported understanding and acceptance of their relatives mental illness.
